Shangla is district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Alpuri is the main city and headquarter of district Shangla. The Shangla district was created in 1995, previously was part of Swat. It is very beautiful district with high mountains, many small valleys, stunning landscapes and clear water lakes.
Alpuri is famous for its fresh water trout. Another historical place is Pirsar, where some ancient remains of Greek period were discovered. It is commonly believed that Alexander of Macedonia stayed in Pirsar for few days. There are some archaeological findings between Chakaisar and Daut, and relics of Hindu Shahi period in Qlandar-Ajmair.
The highest point of the district is Shangla Top, the only transportation and communication link between Shangla and Swat. The area was affected by earthquake on October 8, 2005.
