Muzaffarabad is the capital of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. This Muzaffarabad city is located on the banks of the Jhelum and Neelum rivers. Muzaffarabad, means Muzaffar's Town, was named after a muslim ruler of Khandan-e-Bomba, Sultan Raja Muzaffar Khan. It is 138 km from Islamabad and about 76 km from Abbottabad.
It is very hilly area with wonderful cliffs and valleys. The scenic beauty of the place makes it a popular tourists destination in Pakistan. There are many trekking trails that pass thorough some spectacular scenic spots, making area very popular among trekking enthusiasts. The Neelum river passes through the the town, joins river Jhelum at Domel creating wonderful scenary. The city has many old monuments and new buildings worth visiting.
In October 2005, a strong earthquake damaged Muzaffarabad city very badly. About 50% of the buildings in the city were destroyed, killing about 80,000 in the Kashmir.
