Quetta is the capital of Balochistan province of Pakistan. Quetta is Pashto word (Kwatta) which means a fort. The city is surrounded by hills from all sides, making it natural fort. Probably this is how it got name Quetta. It is close to border with Iran and Afghanistan, making it an excellent trade and communication centre among these countries. The city is strategic military base, military headquarters Quetta.
The city has excellent road and railway link with rest of the country. Kan Mehtarzai railway station is the highest railway station in Asia, is about 100 km from Quetta city.
Quetta serves as base for visitors and explorers of Balochistan. It has beautiful places, mountain passes, orchards of dry fruit around the city.
